Review of The Nature of Existence (2010) by Callie B — 03 Jun 2010
I loved this film! I saw it at a special screening a few weeks ago after reading tons of reviews over the last year. This film spoke to me on so many levels. First of all, I went to Catholic School until I was eleven.
As an adult, I have always tried to have an open mind and be tolerant of all religions. I think this movie really encourages that. I especially like the way that the director approaches everyone with a sense of humor, for example the Christian Evangelist who sings the song about Gay People.
He lets us see that the trait of intolerance is something that is present in all of us and is something that we have to struggle hard to overcome in our lifetime. I also see validity in the interview with the Atheist, Richard Dawkins.
He seems to be quite sure of himself and the one who seems to grasp for straws the least. However, I do think that Atheism overall takes the fun out of life. This movie milks religions and belief systems for their full entertainment value, which sort of makes wonder about all of it a whole lot more.
The movie is advertised as having all of answers, but we all walked out of theater wanting to debate the 85 questions and we did so afterward - quite late in to the morning.
