Review of The Natural (1984) by Jeremy S — 22 May 2010
Recovering from a cold, I caught this movie on the Retro channel yesterday. Though not a big fan of baseball (yeah, call me a commie, whatever) I've always been a fan of Robert Redford- and his pefrormance in this movie did not disappoint.
I think what struck me as most beautiful about it was the lighting and the use of light vs. dark throughout the entire film. Sometimes blatant, sometimes subtle, it was fantastic to watch in detail and would be fun to analyze on its own.
The pace was slow but engrossing- mainly because of the performance by all of its actors as well as the general feel of impending revelation for the plot. On a special note, I love watching Robert Duvall as a villain. Priceless on its own, but the rest of the cast was delightful overall.
