Review of The Namesake (2006) by Marcela C — 22 Sep 2008
It's nice when you see a comedic actor stretch his acting chops and pull it off such is the case with Harold & Kumar's Kal Penn. He is the central character in Mira Nair's the Namesake about an Indian family coming stateside and exposing you to their culture and immersion into American life and the challenges that creates.
It doesn't have the big sweeping emotional touches I was expecting but there are several nice touches involving the family especially the mother and father that give the movie its heart. The subject matter and pacing won't be for everyone but I'd still recommend it.
