Review of The Namesake (2006) by Justin K — 22 May 2012
A careful, relaxed epic that sews together themes of regret, hope, and identity. Kal Penn plays an excellent Gogol: as a teenager, alternately excitable and vindicative; as an adult, quieter and more devastatingly sad.
His story -- along with his father's -- is measured out in scene after beautifully-constructed scene.
