Review of The Namesake (2006) by Ryan M — 07 May 2008
I like Mira Nair's style, but this film isn't as strong as it could have been. The last hour rushes through a lot of plot, not letting all of its "profound" moments have enough power. I also thought Kal Penn was weak in some scenes.
Still, the first hour is very satisfying, the performances from Irfan Khan and Tabu are very strong, and the story is unique and interesting enough to overcome these flaws and make it a worthwhile film.
