Review of The Namesake (2006) by Tim H — 23 May 2008
After the wonderful film Monsoon Wedding, the director Mira Nair makes this amazing motion picture examinning our identities and belonging. The film is very deep in exploring how one can determine where he/she belongs, and that's not shown by boring philosophical dialogues but with a story that was built small piece after another very carefully.
Using the name Gogol for example is a very wise and brave decision, and how the idea of naming the boy Gogol was used later is very clever.
Great cinematography, writing and acting and an amazing soundtrack, the music is just astonishing.
Thumbs up for Mira Nair on her films!
