Review of The Namesake (2006) by Elizabeth H — 02 Jul 2008
Touching film about dual identity's in a cultural sense. the character strives to keep his racial culture at arms length, rather choosing the culture around him. when the american culture fails him, he returns to the culture he abandoned.
in turn, this culture also fails him. nothing is safe and all is susceptible to nature and human flaws. I think the film is instead highlighting that in this day and age, due to the nature of america as a melting pot, change is unavoidable, at times necessary and compromises is the key to keeping with your roots while being modern with the times.
