Review of The Name of the Rose (1986) by Inga I — 20 Oct 2007

I don't agree with the Flixter synopsis that this film is a flawed adaption of the book with the same name. I don't think it would have been possible to make a better adaptation. The way the book works, relies heavily on that particular medium.

I think the film does as much justice to the book and its characters as possible and I think it's superbly cast. Memorable in particular is Ron Pearlman as Salvatore. Sean Connery and Christian Slater were also in top form.
