Review of The Name of the Rose (1986) by Lian F — 01 Jan 2008
Umberto Eco's genius is dulled by a simplified script, Connery's inability to exude the intellectual prowess of William of Askerville and Christian Slater as a terribly inadequate Adso. Despite this, the film is still worth watching for the secondary characters (such as Perlman as Salvatore and Abraham as the Grand Inquisitor) and the appropriately mystical direction of Annaud.
