Review of The Name of the Rose (1986) by Matt C — 01 Feb 2010
The book is magnificent, but incredibly dense on intertextuality. The film is much more accessible and enjoyable on a different but complementary level. The casting (and makeup) is magnificent, with thoroughly ugly chracters emphasising the unrest that lurks within the strange abbey.
Loved it.
