Review of The Name of the Rose (1986) by Blackity B — 30 Dec 2010
A seriously underrated movie. Mesmerizing atmosphere, great performances by Connery and Slater, and a very interesting story that offers both a good mystery plot and a brooding religious backdrop. There is much darkness in this world, a lot of unanswered questions, both earthly and spiritual, but there is also a quiet meditative beauty about it. The movie is delivered by these transcendent moments where the characters step back to absorb something deeper and greater than themselves and all the happenings, which also creates another level of connection with the audience.
This movie is the equivalent of drinking hot calming tea next to a fire as a blizzard rages outside.
