Review of The Name of the Rose (1986) by Sampsa K — 02 Jan 2011
Iï¿ 1/2(TM)m proud to say I prefer the film over the book. The book shrouds the simple mystery in a nearly inpenetrable cloud of unnecessary sidenotes and religious banter. While Annaud does a wonderful job peeling all that excess weight off, Sean Connery fills Williamï¿ 1/2(TM)s shoes like it was him all along.
Unfortunately the lack of distractions reveals the story alone doesnï¿ 1/2(TM)t deserve the excessive hype.
