Review of The Naked Spur (1953) by Hunter D — 16 Nov 2008
Well, I finally broke my Anthony Mann cherry, and I love what I saw here. Jimmy Stewart's character had a really haunted quality to him that made him fascinating, and the silver-tongued criminal he hunts down was a great antagonist.
The chemistry between the characters and the tension created is absolutely electric. My only complaint was that I didn't really get what the motivation was for Janet Leigh's character, and the ending was a tad abrupt, but I'm still definitely interested in further exploring Mann's filmography.
