Spoofs can be done well, and the Naked Gun is proof of it. Instead of using tired jokes, the Naked Gun has an incredible sense of humour and knows that it is trying to be funny and nothing else. Leslie Nielson is perfect as the lead, but the problem with the Naked Gun is that it cannot match the excellence of Airplane!, arguably the greatest Spoof film ever made.
