Review of The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) by David G — 23 Apr 2010
Classic spoof. Any comedy that opens with our hero holidaying in Beirut for some "peace and quiet" before busting in on a terrorist meeting and kicking the asses of Idi Amin, Mikhail Gorbachev, Yasser Arafat and an orange-mohawked (!) Ruhollah Khomeini will always get my vote.
The story is so gloriously hokey and there's such an addictive air of self-conscious stupidity that you can't help but love it. Spoof King Leslie Nielsen, as you'd expect, nails the role of Frank Drebin with his signature deadpan delivery and comic timing and the gags come thick and fast.
Some don't work but the vast majority do.
