There are a couple of good jokes in this (a couple of really good ones as well), but the comedy gets broader and broader as this series went on. It was always silly, nothing wrong with that, but what sells the comedy is when the actors play it straight.
Leslie Nielsen has become a criminal comic "mugger". By playing up the joke, 80% of the humor is killed. Watch "Police Squad"-its finally on DVD and there's only 6 episodes. Just do it.
