Review of The Naked City (1948) by Mitchell W — 09 Feb 2008
The plot's typical for a vintage cop movie, but Dassin tells it very well. Most of the picture was shot on-location in NYC, adding a much-appreciated dose of realism to the story's artificial melodrama.
Later films like William Friedkin's "The French Connection" would take police dramas to whole new levels of realism, but this was an important, early step.
