The Naked City is definitely an underrated classic. The story, which revolves around the murder of a young woman, is strong enough to endure the test of time. The film is 60 years old and hasn't lost any of its entertainment value.

However what makes the Naked City unique is the way in which it was filmed. None of the movie was filmed in a studio and it was all filmed in New York (as opposed to Hollywood). This made it both a unique and risky film to make.

And even though the Naked City appears to be a fairly simple murder mystery it is rich with themes. For example Dassin clearly explores the idea of what it means to be male in post world war II America.

Definitely worth a look if you are interested in the history of film.
