Review of The Music Man (1962) by Sephra P — 05 Jun 2007
One of my most favorite movies. Whenever I watch it, the songs play in my head for days. They actually used many of the same stars from the Broadway show in the movie. And so wonderful to see adorable little Ronnie Howard, now a top director.
I used to have a fantasy, based on the end of this movie where the characters are magically transformed into a professional marching band -- in my fantasy, I was in assembly in junior high, when the principal announces that The Beatles are here. Magically, I'm wearing a "Beatle suit" and holding a Rickenbacker, and am on stage as John Lennon. Okay, I was a strange kid.
Becky F mentions that Sinatra was considered for the part. Ironically, Sinatra was supposed to play Billy Bigelow in Carousel, also starring Shirley Jones [trivia: Shirley's movie daughter in that movie in Carousel is one of the students in this movie]. He actually recorded several of the soundtrack songs for that movie before walking off the set in a dispute.
