Review of The Music Lovers (1971) by Benjamin P — 19 Feb 2008
Another criminally underrated movie. Ken Russell is an absolute genius, and this movie was made when he was in his prime. I've got this one on laserdisc, and it's my most prized LD. Brilliant and hallucinatory, but not literal biopic.
The operatic, surreal "1812 Overture" sequence with cannons blowing off heads is quite the highlight.
