Review of The Muppet Movie (1979) by Tungis G — 15 Apr 2013
The 9 year old me was forever changed by this movie. I learned it was ok to never stop dreaming and there are some things in life that should not be compromised. The cameos are great and the weight and number of the big name stars that participated speaks to the respect Henson garnered, which is huge considering he was a hippy puppeteer in a city where pretense, ego, and pomp reign supreme.
The movie itself is a masterfully done entertaining kids and adults alike teaching socially redeeming values without being preachy or heavy. The one-liners are clever, the songs catchy and fun and the story well paced.
This film indeed made "millions of people happy" and Jim Henson a hero to many, including me. I miss him and his vision greatly. One of my favorite films and I'll always remember my father taking me and my brother to go see it.
