Review of The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) by Rob T — 06 Jan 2009
Arguably the best of the reinterpretations of Dickens classic seasonal tale. Caine is strong in the role of Scrooge (though the performance is not as iconic as Alistair Sim in the same role) but what really raises the story to a whole new level is the injection of the Muppet brand of humour. The effect is wonderful and manages not to overwhelm the core moral of the tale, and in many ways serves to enhance it. Placing Gonzo in the role of Dickens acting as narrator was genius and again adds to the retelling rather than detracting from it.
The songs are all rather catchy too :).
Almost the perfect Christmas film.
