Review of The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) by Johnathon W — 19 Aug 2018
Charming Muppet movie that while not a classic like the previous ones, makes a nice addition to any Christmas movie rotation. The cast is solid, with Michael Caine bringing nice gravitas as Scrooge, while the rest of the muppets are nicely cast.
Gonzo & Rizzo are the scene stealers as the movies narrators, and bring most of the trademark Muppet humor (Rizzo has fun trying to get Gonzo to break character, as he supposed to be playing Charles Dickens).
Behind the camera, Brian Henson does a solid job directing (especially considering it was his first feature), though it isn't quite as cinematic as the previous Muppet films under his father, with it looking very much on a stage.
The songs are charming but so-so, though Henson does stay faithful to the original Charles Dickens story, incorporated whole lines never used before in previous adaptations. Overall, not the best Muppet movie, but still a good one and great for viewing during the holidays.
