Review of The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) by Josh D — 03 Dec 2013
Bah, Humbug!
For the record, I am not only a cold hearted son of a bitch, but I have never actually seen a muppet movie until now and I can easily say without a doubt that this is a classic.
It has catchy and highly memorable songs which do show inspiration and occasionally serve as exposition which makes things all the more amusing. The puppetry is absolutely outstanding, once again a top notch job from the Jim Henson studio.
Michael Caine's performance as Ebenezer Scrooge was dark, tragic and fun to watch. He didn't do any wacky, crazy slapstick, he played it straight. Very, very straight. The supporting cast of Muppets and humans alike are also top notch which means that you are more likely to feel for the characters.
Remember that first thing I mentioned at the start of this review? Well, this applies in real life and I will admit that I actually felt bad for Scrooge at times which is also a delightful advantage of Michael Caine's performance. After I watched it, I felt hopelessly jolly to the point of not being able to recognise any other december holidays.
Give this a watch, I strongly recommend this movie.
