Review of The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) by Matt B — 24 Dec 2009
My favorite Christmas film. When it came out I was 8 and it was very easy and fun to understand the story. Looking back the songs are actually pretty powerful considering they're performed by muppets.
I would prefer the songs in this movie over almost any other Christmas tune. Michael Caine as Scrooge was a perfect choice and is a good balance between the muppets antics and the seriousness of the real story.
Critics seem to trash this film but I don't know why. It's pretty faithful to the story in most regards and they make it easy for children to understand a very complicated and often frightning tale.
Looking back at it today, the movie has aged very well and is still fun to watch. A Christmas Carol is the best Christmas story ever told and it's presented here in a unique and fun fashion.
