Review of The Munsters' Revenge (1981) by Becky B — 28 Jan 2014

I mean.. it wasn't bad. But wtf was up with Lily? she didn't even care about Herman. She hardly had any feature as well, he was completely dull and done nothing but stand around. She used to be a very 'I'll DEAL WITH YOU" sort of character.

Did Yvonne not want to do much in this movie? And WTF was up with the new Marilyn growling Eddie? She was never like that (by the way, the reason for the new casting of Marilyn and Eddie is to do with age and the Munsters apparently had their ages frozen?!?!).

All the characters were nothing like their former selves. I thought Grandpa was alright, but yelling to turn into a bat? Herman was... so-so but no one was like their usual characters. YES YES I know the show was 1965 and this was 1981.

.. just was really disappointed in the characters. I do think Fred tried hard because he DID demand high pay for this movie (he didn't want to do it because he regretted doing the show for being type-casted).

The Phantom of the Opera was annoying as hell. And wtf was up with Igor suddenly being in a castle as a human??? There was just these ridiculous stupidities like that.. such as Herman and Grandpa trying to get into their own home TWICE by going up a tree for no apparent reason (were hiding, but why go back there twice?!?!) and the boyfriend of Marilyn not caring about what Herman and Grandpa look like??!.

I did like the funny Grandpa and Herman parts like them dressed up as women though and a few things... but it is nothing like the show itself and the first movie (which was stupid as well, but at least Lily had her tv show character!!!).

I guess it was a lot age related, writer related and nearly 20 years later. I did not mind the new Eddie and Marilyn because they are my least favourite characters anyway (my faves happen to be Grandpa and Lily :P).

Not sure if I would ever see it again. I still love the munsters very much.
