Review of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) by John K — 13 Apr 2013

What a sad depressing world we live in. We've had three Mummy films before this one. You'd have thought the general public and the studio would have learned their lessons. They weren't very good; at all.

But, for some abysmal reason, they felt the need for a forth movie in the series, and quite frankly, it's just as bad. Brendan Fraser is back as Rick O'Connell, famed archeologist (is it just me, but archeological characters in movies seem to be world renown.

Everyone knows their name. Is that strange to anyone else?), is back and three guesses what he's doing. No, he's not acting better. No, he's not in a better movie. That right, he's battling ANOTHER Mummy.

How original. This Mummy is Asian though, as if that makes a difference. The film makers pump up the Asian music, but nowhere in this mess of a film is ancient Chinese philosophy discussed, played with, inter-developed into the story; NOTHING! Instead, we get endless magic (Oh, you didn't know asians have magical powers? Well, they do.

) spells and CGI fantasy to the umph degree. Not Indiana Jones type fantasy, Lord of the Rings fantasy. There are dragons, and abominable snow men. Yes, abominable snowman. Actually, they prefer the term Yhetti.

They're big white teletubbies that seem to understand human talk. Other worthless performances in the film include Jet Li(who has one fight scene. . . . One.) as the Dragon Emperor. Throughout most the film though, the Emperor is played by a computer.

Maria Bello replaces Rachel Weisz as Evelyn. She looks stunning in her 30s atire. And she has absolutely nothing to do. Her role is the screamer. It's her job to say, "Look out!" and then interpret something in any language.

(Cause she knows them all.) Luke Ford made sure he had product in his hair through the entire film in order to look hot. He plays Alex O'Connell. He's a pretty boy who thinks he's an archeologist.

Of course we have dull humor and witless dialogue throughout the film, making the experience worse than it has to be. I just worry for kids who go to see this. Will they buy into it. Will this movie be the downfall of society? Let's hope, for our sake, that most people stear far away from this film, we don't need the world any dumber than it is.
