Review of The Mummy (2017) by Chazzyc . — 23 Jun 2017
It's not a good movie. Cruise's character didn't really work as it was written, I hated Jake Johnson's character from the get-go, and the female lead wasn't interesting. The comedic elements felt out of place, for what this iteration seems to want to be.
That being said, I liked the actual mummy stuff, including the backstory. There were some creepy moments with her minions I'm surprised that I also liked the Russel Crowe stuff. Overall, the story itself wasn't bad, but there were significant problems with the way it was told (the actual script & direction) and casting.
The good stuff gives me hope for future Dark Universe installments.
