Review of The Mummy (2017) by Dharma — 08 Jun 2017
The Mummy is clearly has every potential to be a great film, but it squandered it for setting up the so called 'dark universe' for its studio. With Cruise at the forefront, it is essentially M:I meets Indiana Jones, mixed in with a little bit of the original.
It is entertaining and will probably earn loads of money in the overseas market, but it will probably bomb in the US market, considering that they want a more 'hearty meal' in their viewing habits (hence, its lousy ratings).
As it is, The Mummy is designed to thrill you a bit, scare you a bit and let you off the roller coaster ride mildly entertained. But it's equivalent of of eating loads of popcorn, and still wanting a full meal one hour afterwards.
