Review of The Mummy (2017) by Imthenoob — 19 Nov 2017
Tom Cruise is the only one who honestly tries this entire movie, The rest of the cast is just terrible. Jake Johnson, who plays the needless comedic relief, seems very out of his element. On the other hand, Watching Annabelle Wallis try to act is laughable in its own right. Throw in an awkward performance by Russell Crowe and you got yourself a very poorly acted movie.
The poor acting by the cast is really only made worse by the terrible dialogue they have to deal with. As actors, You can only try so hard to sell the weak material you are given to work with. And this script is utter garbage. It's just the first film in a modern day setting but lacking certain aspects: Likeable characters, Good action and a director who knows what he/she is doing.
The biggest issue for me was the tone. They start the film with a dark, flashback introduction to the villain. Back in the present, We are thrown into awkward bits of comedy that doesn't seem to end. This should have never been a comedy first film. They wanted it to be something it should have never been in the first place and that's why it sucks.
