Review of The Mummy (1999) by Kevin M — 02 Apr 2012
Characters like Jonathan (John Hannah), Beni (Kevin J. O'Connor), and the Warden (Omid Djalili), keep the movie fun and hilarious. Like Tomb Raider and Galaxy Quest, The Mummy is one of the movies I grew up with.
I've seen it countless times since its release over a decade ago. Even the movie acknowledges its own cheesiness. At the end, when the hero is kissing the damsel in distress, Jonathan mutters a well-placed "Oh, please.
" Its lines like this that make this movie funny and righteously well-aware of its own stupidity. While The Mummy is a rather pointless exercise in Egyptian mythology, it's still a lot of fun.
