Review of The Mummy (1999) by Rick R — 12 May 2014
The Mummy (1999).
This movie is more of a ripoff of the Indiana Jones franchise than of the Boris Carloff movie by the same name. It really showed how much we missed the antics of the Joneses (well, until we got the Chrystal Skull). Although this doesn't have the Spielberg touch, Stephen Sommers directed a fairly good actioner.
Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) was an X-French Foreign Legionnaire that discovered the spirit of Imhotep (Amold Vosloo) while under attack by Egyptian insurgents inside some old ruins. Now, facing the gallows, he's rescued by his old gambling partner John Carnahan (John Hannah) and his bookish sister Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) who discover an ancient key to the legendary lost city of Hamunaptra.
The archaeological dig for ancient riches and relics is interrupted by the cursed high priest Imhotep and his desire to bring back to life, his love, Anck Su Namun (Patricia Velasquez).
