Review of The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) by James P — 30 Jul 2008
A moving story set in the 1950s that explores the relationship between two friends Ernesto Guevera and Alberto Granaldo as they set off on a road trip on a beat up old motorbike dubbed 'The Mighty One' to explore Latin America.
As the story goes they somehow manage to get their story as travelling Doctors printed in the newspaper helping them find food and shelter on their way through Argentina, Chile & Peru. The buddy road movie style switches gear into more of a documentary style taking in the tragic lives of indigenous farmers and miners made homeless in their own country by rich landowners.
The story is thought provoking and fascinating insight into Che Guevera and how his medical training and experiences treating leprosy formed his ideals. As the opening titles say its not a film about heroic feats more a journey that opens their minds to what's happening to the peoples of Latin America.
