Review of The Mothman Prophecies (2002) by Jon M — 07 Sep 2008
Mark Pellington is director that sharpened his teeth in music videos and went on to films in 90s. The Mothman Prophecies is effective dive into terror and paranoia. It is a gentle piece of film-making that is quietly creepy and avoids all the shock-cliches.
It is also surprisingly psychological and leaves lot to viewers imagination. No simple answers and no clear ending. Even though there is a bit too much stylistic tricks and a few sub-plots too many. Pellington is easily one of the rare directors that seems to have surprisingly much control on his films in Hollywood.
The Mothman Prophecies is possibly one of the most sophisticated entries into horror and paranoia in 00s.
