Review of The Mosquito Coast (1986) by Timothy M — 03 Sep 2010
I... get the hate, I guess, but I don't agree with it. To be fair, this is a film that could have been a masterpiece and doesn't really reach those heights, but I think what is there is excellent.
One of Ford's best performances - surprising to see him play someone so unsympathetic. A complete and utter sh*t, basically. Typically great cinematography from John Seale, a wonderful score from Maurice Jarre, and a script from none other than Paul Schrader.
I'd love to read the novel just so I could find out what is supposedly so horrifically wrong with this film.
