Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Emma G — 16 Feb 2014
Man, this is one of those adaptations where you just KNOW the source material is complete garbage. I feel sorry for the filmmakers, who clearly had very little to work with. I won't be touching the books with a 10-foot pole after watching this monstrosity.
It's a lazy amalgamation of 15,000 fantasy topics with a total lack of coherence or interesting characters. The writing is sloppy and the acting is abysmal. I will admit it DOES pick up after a .5-star first act, but only marginally.
It just kinda drones on and nothing really feels unique or important or dramatic or interesting or non-eye-gougingly clumsy and boring.
