Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Jakelem — 10 Jun 2021
Can’t believe I was robbed of a cinematic franchise where Lily Collins was going to be the lead. All things considered at least we got one go around, I get this film is not great it rips of heavily off other better material ( Harry Potter, Star Wars ) but I can’t help enjoying it for all it’s absurd lore and story beats. The effects look surprisingly decent for a 60 million budget, the film looks like a film! Also Leather and more leather! Poor Lily Collins though she really tried to break into Hollywood for a minute there she’s so talented and those eyebrows whew.
Also, it doesn’t help every-body and I mean everybody is giving it their all like this is the greatest thing ever especially Johnathan Rhys Meyers who plays a delicious villain in Valentine. I also may be biased because I adore this series growing up and while I know they’re not the greatest books they helped filled the void when other book series ended. In another world we would have gotten the entire series adapted to screen. I take this film over the awful Freeform series that only got Malec right.
