Review of The Monuments Men (2014) by Wayne M — 28 Feb 2015
This film should or could have been great. Great cast and important true story should equal cinematic success. Alas it wasn't to be. This is a flat, undramatic affair that never actually takes off.
The true story of the 'monuments men' is concerned with a group of learned non-soldiers who are tasked to recover stolen art treasures in World War II. But a leaden script makes for a bit of a slog.
When it tries to be funny it's not and the dramatic moments just fizzle. There is interest there in the recapture of the works of art but as a movie it just flat lines.
