Review of The Monuments Men (2014) by Josh K — 07 Jun 2014
I have to say that I actually enjoyed this film. Sure its preachy in a few scenes, but for the most part it seems that George Clooney knew where he wanted to take the film and succeeded. The film chronicles a small platoon during World War II who go into Germany to find art that Hitler has stolen.
Their plan is to rescue it from Hitler and to return it to the rightful owners. The film is a fun ride, honoring what these people are trying to do, while also adding a great sense of comedy where needed and also a great amount of suspense and tension when also needed.
George Clooney and Matt Damon perfectly lead the cast, which includes excellent supporting performances from Bill Murray, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Jean Dujardin and Cate Blanchett. Clooney's direction is perfect, proving still that he is a great director just as he is a great actor, the music is impressive and the staging is also well done.
The film never slows down and is a fun watch. Bravo.
