Review of The Monster (2016) by Babatomiwa A — 13 Jan 2019
Just watched The Monster on Netflix and I cried like a woman reliving scarring memories in therapy, while at the same time clawed back into my couch hiding from the creature in the woods. The under story of a traumatized relationship between momma and daughter made the horror elements even that more effective because I felt the hurt between the two, and heard the unsaid "I'm sorry"s and "I love you"s each time one of them thought they could lose the other.
I honestly found this to be as much a heartbreaking story of redemption, guilt, remorse and love as it was a horror story about monsters in the dark. It's a mommy's job to protect our children from monsters in the dark.
..and it broke my heart to see that this momma might just lose that battle at any time. Well recommended and worthy of a second viewing.
