It is seriously hard to think of giant crystals as a scary concept for a movie even back in the 50s. This is certainly not a poor film, with a demand on the cast to over play their fear and a soundtrack to build up suspense both are applied appropriately when needed.
Again though just can't feel any suspense towards giant crystals.
