Review of The Monkey's Uncle (1965) by Nathan E — 26 Apr 2013
A much better film that the first - more than likely because that, while it is divided into two "adventures" like the first film, there is an overarching "spine" that bonds the two together (the rivalry between the judge and his fellow board member).
Director Robert Stevenson returns, and thankfully keeps the light and funny style of the first film. There is always a thought with sequels to tweak the characters' looks and personalities just because it's a new film. Good directors and producers keep what works and just improve on it.
Tommy Kirk is as charming as always, and Annette is plucky, pretty, and a joy to watch. Much like the Beach Party films, this movie is an excellent 1960s slice of life, feel good story.
