The film does two things extremely well. First, you have to make the viewer want the bad guy (woman in this case) dead, really, really badly. Check. Second, it really pulls off the death to the living and no hope for all ending quite well.
That's why Invasion of The Bodysnatchers sticks with you forever. These kinds of endings are not common, so enjoy them.
