Review of The Mist (2007) by Roger W — 30 Sep 2012
There's something in the mist and it ain't no god damn gorilla either. Now this is one cool premise from a popular Stephen King novel that transitioned very well onto the big screen. When you put two great minds like Stephen King and Frank Darabont together, you get something that is absolutely amazing.
Out of all the characters in this movie, the one actor that I loved and hated the most was Marcia Gay Harden. In this you're suppose to hate her but you don't hate her like you hate Darth Vader you hate her like herpes, because she just won't go the fuck away. Second favorite actor is Toby Jones for what he did to Marcia Gay Harden near the end of the film. The monsters in this movie are neither evil nor intelligent, they're just animals that are predators. They are not trying to get into the supermarket they're too stupid to get in, but if you wander out there then you're pretty much food. What was also great about this movie is that it's like a Twilight Zone story where it is all about the people trapped in the supermarket and how they start come apart and tear into each other. I will admit that there are some annoying parts like some of the people in this just can't handle rationale like Andre Braugher. They tell him that they have people dying in the mist, dismembered limbs and dinosaur heads in the back warehouse, etc. and Andre Braugher shakes his head saying, "Oh no no no. You're playing a trick on me." Overall, I enjoyed this movie all the way through and I do understand the sub-par acting in this. It is a campy/fun horror movie, in a lot of ways, Which is why I am going to give this four out of five stars.
