Review of The Mission (1986) by Vj B — 27 Dec 2007
Very good film. Visually stunning, excellent musical score, good narrative that flows along nicely. Character dialog interactions on screen are generally not lengthy but that seems to help not hinder the sense of inevitable tragedy about to unfold.
The main achievement is to feel a sense of real sorrow for the Indian people casually and brutally used as pawns by the Church and various governments. Loses one star for a few crappy scenes involving De Niro e.
G. "you laughing at me?" that seemed to come from one of his mob films.
