Review of The Mission (1986) by Ignacio A — 11 Apr 2008
A very powerful and moving story. Its problem is that it needed to spend more time with Robert De Niro's character - his story of redemption is the one that we want to see in focus, but we find him sitting on the backburner a lot of the time.
I think whoever wrote the main review for this film is wrong - there is a great sense of emotional weight and it has one of the most powerful opening scenes in film history.
