Review of The Mission (1986) by Kevin H — 19 Apr 2009
The Mission is a beautifully filmed picture, full of great cinematography and wonderful landscapes. It is also an incredibly well scored picture, with some of Ennio Morricone's best work on display.
Where it ultimately fails is in character development, as we don't really see the characters grow outside of De Niro's ascent up the mountain. Outside of this though, the performances of De Niro, Irons and Neeson more than make up for this and the film itself is a wonder to behold.
Highly recommended.
