Review of The Mission (1986) by Blake B — 12 Jul 2009
Beautiful location cinematography and good performances sell this movie, which unfortunately is a little sloppy in the plotting and message departments. It was nice to see missionaries treated as positive influences for once, and to see the Jesuits specifically treated as something other than Papal shock troops.
The Mission is ultimately a good object lesson in the corrupting influence of politics in religion--not the other way around, as we are so often told.
