Review of The Mission (1986) by Joseph R — 28 Jun 2008
Two words: Ennio Morricone. This may be the best film score ever. I will say that as beautiful and well-acted as this film is, something wasn't sitting right with me. I realized what it was when I tried to pinpoint the main protagonist.
Who is this movie about? DeNiro? Irons? McNally? There's a case for all three. Then I realized the mission is the main character. Not an easy film to understand, but that may be best. And how many movies feature the Eucharist in the climax?
