Review of The Misfits (1961) by Madeline M — 18 Apr 2008
The performances in The Misfits are the only thing that keeps it going. Clark Gable plays the dark side of John Wayne's screen persona, and Monroe and Clift are especially wonderful and doomed but luminous.
But Arthur Miller seems to have been using this as a chance to work out his issues with Monroe - and it's a little too clear watching this movie. There is some beautiful photography, however. And Huston knew how to make westerns - even if Arthur Miller didn't.
